Privacy
Vider is a companion for the forest. Almost everything it knows stays on your iPhone. This page says what leaves it, why, and what you can do about it.
Last updated 6 October 2026.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your position and your walks. Vider uses your location to mark your point, record where you walk and lead you back. The recording is stored on the iPhone.
- Motion. The motion sensors tell Vider when you have stopped, so it can stay quiet and save battery. Nothing is stored.
- Your spots and what you've learnt. The mushroom spots you mark and your progress on the learning path are stored on the iPhone.
- Your voice. If you talk to Vider, speech recognition runs on the iPhone with Apple's on-device recognizer. No recording leaves the phone.
What leaves the iPhone, and why
- Map and mushroom data. Map tiles, terrain, mushroom ground and photos are fetched from Vider's servers (hosted by Cloudflare in Europe). Like any web request, these carry your IP address; Vider does not store it.
- Map rendering. The map is drawn with the Mapbox Maps SDK, which fetches styles and tiles from Mapbox and may collect anonymous usage data as described in Mapbox's privacy policy. You can turn Mapbox telemetry off from the i button on the map.
- Weather. To show the weather where you are, the coordinates of your position are sent to SMHI's open data service (the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute).
- Smart guidance. When Smart guidance is on, a short description of your situation on a walk — how far you are from your point and in which direction, in words — and the words you spoke to Vider may be sent to TypeSafe (
api.typesafe.ai) so Vider can decide what to say. Switch it off under Settings and nothing is sent.
Your account, if you make one
Vider works without an account. If you sign in with Apple or Google, Vider keeps on its servers:
- an identifier from Apple or Google, and the name they or you give — never your email address;
- your mushroom spots, your finished walks with their tracks, your learning progress, your name and how you like to use Vider, so they follow you to a new phone;
- a sign-in session for each device.
This is stored with Cloudflare (D1 and R2) in Europe. It is used for nothing but keeping your things in sync. Vider never sells data, shows ads or builds profiles.
Your choices
- Sign out on any device under Me → Settings.
- Delete your account under Me → Settings → Delete account. Everything on Vider's servers is removed at once, and the Sign in with Apple grant is revoked. Your iPhone keeps its own copy.
- Delete the app and everything on the iPhone goes with it.
- Location, motion, microphone and speech recognition can be switched off at any time in iOS Settings; Vider then does what it can without them.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask what Vider holds about you, have it corrected or deleted, or get a copy of it. Write to hello@vider.se. You may also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
Children
Vider is not directed at children under 13, and no account is knowingly made for one.
